There are all sorts of methodologies for treating alcohol and drug addiction. Some just require a couple weeks. Most emphasize one month of treatment stay. However, if the addiction is severe enough, a long term drug rehab program may be in the best interest.

More and more addiction treatment facilities are emphasizing a 90-day treatment process. Studies have shown that a 90-day commitment to sobriety gives a far greater chance at a successful recovery. Individuals in an extended drug and alcohol program can have a firmer grasp of these initial steps, as they learn to work on steps four and five. These steps focus on clearing up the problems in their life with the help of their higher power.

Long term drug rehab also introduces new elements of recovery. These include social programs, service projects, and skill building activities. The involvement of outpatient support meetings and groups to assist in recovery is implemented, as well as an addiction sponsor. Involving individuals in these programs prior to leaving rehab can be beneficial. The individual in recovery can get used to meeting attendance before they even leave treatment.

Recovery is a process, it takes time and effort before it is successful. Long term drug rehab can provide additional days for achieving this recovery. After a 90-day stay, a person is only three months away from half a year of sobriety. It usually takes about a year of sobriety before it is considered a successful recovery. Long term drug rehab is a solid start towards this occurrence.
