Alcohol addiction symptoms vary from person to person, but every person who develops an addiction to alcohol will begin to show signs to the outside world.

Alcohol is the most common abused drug in America and throughout the world. Being that alcohol is a legal substance, people tend to take advantage of the drug and some people begin to develop an addiction to it. According to www.dosomething.org, there are approximately 80,000 deaths that are related to alcohol abuse every year, making it the third highest cause of death in America. In addition, approximately 5,000 people under the age of 21 die in alcohol related incidents every year in the USA.

Alcohol abuse and addiction tend to impair people’s judgment which causes them to act irrational at times and leads to poor decisions that may harm others and themselves.

  1. The need to drink alcohol every day: A person who becomes addicted to alcohol will most likely begin to consume alcohol every day, which will eventually lead to the point of them drinking it throughout the day every day.
  2. Drinking alcohol first thing in the morning: If a person is drinking alcohol before, or with breakfast, then they are most likely developing an alcohol addiction problem.
  3. Drinking alone: Alcohol is typically a social drink. If a person begins to get drunk on their own frequently then they may be developing an alcohol addiction.
  4. Stopping activities to drink: When a person begins to stop doing hobbies or activities that they enjoy doing to drink alcohol, they may be developing an addiction.
  5. Not caring about their appearance: Some people who drink too much do not care about the way they look and will forget to shower and groom themselves.
  6. Becoming defensive about drinking: When a person becomes hostile or defensive when asked about their drinking habits this is typically a sign that they are drinking a lot.
  7. Secretive about their alcohol use: When a person is hiding their drinking habits they are ashamed of them and could be developing a strong dependence on the substance.
  8. Skips work or school frequently: When a person drinks too much it typically ways down on their body and they will begin to call off of work and stop attending school due to their habit.
  9. Continual drinking even when they see it is affecting their relationships and their life in general.
  10. Body shaking or twitching: If a person’s body begins to shake or twitch for no apparent reason when they are not drinking alcohol their body has developed a dependency of the drug.
