Causes of bi-polar disorder

Bi-polar disorder is mainly a type of mood disorder and highly related to the psychological health of a person. People affected with bi-polar disorder experience great emotional fluctuations, which can induce fatal suicidal tendency in the affected. Therefore, bi-polar disorder needs to be timely treated. To help the patient, knowing the causes of the disorder are very important. Though the bi-polar disorder has no single cause, listed below are some of the most common causes of the bi-polar disorder.

It appears that most of the bi-polar patients are “genetically predisposed”. Bi-polar disorder tends to be familial, meaning that it can be successfully passed down through generations. The neurochemical factors are also considered as the causes of the bi-polar disorder. This disorder is primarily a biological disorder, which occurs in some of the specific parts of the brain and can also result in bi-polar disorder in a persons due to the dysfunctioning of certain neurotransmitters or the chemical messengers in the brain.

The environmental factors of a person are also considered to trigger the cause of this disorder. A person living in unhealthy psychological environmental conditions can be at a greater risk of contracting this disorder. No wonder, that people influenced under drugs, alcohol or substance abuse are also highly prone to this disorder, since drug abuse largely affects the mental state of the individual. In some cases related to teens, social and personal stresses, parents divorce, or other traumatic events can trigger bi-polar disorder.

Since, most of the causes of bio-polar disorder are biological; they may remain dormant in the person for any period of time. However, if recognized timely, bi-polar disorder can be completely cured.
