Types of Treatment Offered at Alcohol Treatment Centers

Alcoholism is a degenerative disease that often goes untreated for various reasons despite the many different types of treatment offered at alcohol treatment centers to help those who are addicted to get sober. Each alcohol treatment center is different, and many offer an array of services to their patients while others take things relatively simple offering only the vital necessities. Depending on the severity of your addiction and the type of alcohol treatment center that you choose to seek help at, you may find any of the following types of treatment being offered to you:

Detox

Not all alcohol treatment centers will offer detox, but all will require that you have either safely detoxed and overcome alcohol withdrawal before being admitted to the facility for treatment or that you enter into their own on-site detox program to ensure that you overcome withdrawal before progressing to other aspects of the treatment program. During detox you will receive treatment that helps you overcome symptoms of alcohol withdrawal while the toxins left behind from the alcohol are eliminated from your body.

Holistic

alcohol use disorder treatment

Medical detox, counseling, holistic methods, and aftercare are some of the possible services at alcohol abuse treatment centers.

Many alcohol treatment centers now provide holistic alcohol treatment to patients. Such treatment may include acupuncture, massage therapy, spa treatments, or other forms of holistic care that will help to promote total body wellness throughout the alcohol addiction treatment and recovery process.

Support

All alcohol treatment centers provide support for their patients to help them get sober and stay that way. The types of support that are provided in an alcohol treatment center can vary quite differently from one center to the next. Some facilities provide only basic support such as NA or AA meetings, while others provide an array of support groups that are aimed at helping the user to focus on complete recovery without relapse.

Medical Care

Alcoholism often leads to an array of complications including health conditions that require long term treatment and care. Medical care is usually provided, at least to some degree, in an alcohol treatment center. Some facilities are actually housed in a hospital setting while others simply have their own medical team on staff to provide patients with around-the-clock care that ensures their continued safety in treatment.

Counseling

Alcohol treatment involves extensive counseling to help the individual heal from past and present complications that are the result of the alcoholism as well as those which may have been to blame for the alcoholism. Counseling is provided at alcohol treatment centers in the forms of both individual and group programs that are aimed at teaching those in recovery how to avoid relapse, take control of their recovery and live alcohol free.

Aftercare

Aftercare, or follow-up care is also provided at alcohol treatment centers. This method of treatment is offered to those who have already completed a treatment program but may need some additional support or guidance along the way to ensure their continued recovery. Aftercare may include job placement, housing assistance, continued counseling and therapy as well as various other services that are aimed at helping the individual to remain self-sufficient and sober even after leaving treatment.
