WHO Report States Alcohol Kills More than AIDS and Violence

A recent report issued by the World Health Organization has found that alcohol is more deadly than AIDS and violence as well as various other conditions such as tuberculosis. It is estimated that 4% of all deaths that occur worldwide are caused by alcohol. Such alarming statistics give rise to the need for more alcohol treatment centers throughout the country and the world in an effort to overcome these alarming statistics.

As a result of rising incomes even in under developed countries such as Africa and certain parts of Asia, binge drinking has increased causing new problems that these countries are unable to attend to. Additionally, even developed countries have an extensive need for alcohol treatment centers to help individuals who have drinking problems. Poor government policy and a lack of priority make alcohol consumption a grave problem throughout the world.

The toll that alcohol takes on communities in terms of vehicular accidents, the violence that is caused by people when they are drunk, the neglect that occurs to both children and families as a result of alcohol addiction and the lack of productivity which occurs when an individual has a drinking problem are quite significant. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that as many as 2.5 million people die from alcohol related causes each year. Alcohol kills more people than AIDS, TB and violence put together.
