Different therapies for treating children with ADHD

Several intervention approaches need to be practiced while treating ADHD in children. Apart form medication; there are different therapies for treating children with ADHD, which can be practiced for complete curing. The other therapies involve psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, social skills training and parenting skills training.

The psychotherapy helps the people or children with ADHD to accept themselves with the disease. They teach the affected to like themselves despite of this ADHD disorder. In the psychotherapy, the affected talks with therapist about their feelings, thoughts and about the things that worry them or results in stress. The psychotherapy helps the affected to learn different ways of handling their own emotions and in exploring different self-defeating patterns of behavior. This therapy also helps them to cope up with their other emotional problems and makes them confident enough to socialize.

The behavioral therapy can result in developing effective ways to work on issues that are bothering them. Like for example, rather than helping the child to understand his own feelings, this therapy completely alters their thinking, making them think positively. This therapy helps in developing the spirit of self-motivation or self-rewarding, in these children.

The social skill training helps the children with ADHD to develop new behaviors. This therapy teaches the child to develop that kind of behavior, which is important for maintaining good social relationships, like sharing food, asking for help etc. This training also induces an ability in these children to understand the facial expression of other people, to understand their tone of voice, in order to respond appropriately.

Since, parents play an important role in treating children with ADHD, there is a special programme known as the parenting skills training for the parents to help improve their child with ADHD. This training enables the parents to learn special parenting techniques and tools to handle and to properly manage their child. Parents are also taught to give their child quality time which will help the child immensely in fighting against this disorder, with the love and support of his family members. The praising done by the parents to their child will definitely provide unique strength and abilities to these children.
