Youth drinking a plague in North Dakota
It’s proven that drinking and driving, binge drinking and underage drinking cause death and serious injury.
Despite the statistics, members of the Legislature turn their heads away from the problem and continue to reap the sales tax revenue, as bars refuse to participate in server training and overserve patrons. Adults actually admit they feel there’s nothing wrong with giving alcohol to kids. Despite all of that, we still have responsible parents and kids who make the right decisions.
I know there’s a silent majority in North Dakota that knows what’s right and does what’s right. However, it’s clouded by a legislative body that can’t even allow one penny toward education to advocate prevention of underage drinking.
Good policy is blocked by the attitude by adults who say, “I did it when I was young. They’re going to do it anyway.” What parent, senator, representative, bar owner or so-called friend is promoting it by ignoring it?
Now is the time to pressure your state representatives for a 10-cent tax on beer and alcohol for education.
Keep talking to your kids about making the right choices.
For a state that’s first in the nation for underage drinking, we come in dead last for doing something about it until it’s too late.

For those involved in the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, it will represent an effort to raise awareness of alcohol disease. The three-day challenge, always the first weekend of April, kicks off the 23rd….
Dr. Charles S. Lieber, who overturned conventional wisdom by demonstrating that alcohol is a toxin that can damage the liver and that alcoholism is a disease that can be treated, died March 1 at his home in Tenafly, N.J. He was 78 and had been battling stomach cancer. Before his work in the 1970s, researchers….
John Baker is a quiet, unassuming man. When he says he deserves no credit for starting Celebrate Recovery, a Christian 12-step program now in 12,000 churches, he means it. Baker, who is in Tulsa this weekend for a Celebrate Recovery leadership training seminar, was raised in a Christian home and said he accepted Christ when….
Court-ordered rehabilitation for drug and alcohol offenders may soon be a locally based option for those facing charges in Lincoln County Justice Court, a choice authorities say would provide them with better options for sentencing and enhance the effectiveness of such treatment. Lincoln County Justice Court Judge Ralph Boone and Post One Probation Officer Roger….
