Teenager with ADHD

ADHD mostly affects small children. However, many times it does happen that children with ADHD do suffer from this disorder even in their teenage. Therefore, though children suffering from ADHD successfully navigate from school years if properly treated, the child with ADHD, when enters his teenage needs to be again re-evaluated for this disorder. And also, the medication needs to be continued under professional guidance.

However, when it comes to handling the teenagers with ADHD, their parents need to be lot more tactful. This is because the teen years are often very challenging for most of these children and undergo many emotional and physical changes. The children with ADHD cannot successfully handle the daily challenges like pressure form school and society, low self-esteem, failure of relationship etc. They may also be lured to indulge in forbidden things like drugs, alcohol and crimes, whose consequences can be fatal. At this stage, the parents may face problems as to how to handle their children. It is also very important for the parents to keep a watch on their teenagers and ensure that they do not indulge in any illegal activities.

To handle the teenagers with ADHD, the parents must implement the rules that are easy to understand and communicate well with their child. The parents must explain to their teenager, as to why the particular rules are set and their advantage. If your teenager tends to break these rules, then punishing them severely is not a solution. Give your teenager some time out and talk to them. Remember that teenagers with Adhd are accompanied with impulsivity and hot temper, so avoid fights. In addition, parents must be careful about providing their teenagers, suffering from ADHD, with certain things like cars or other vehicles, as their unthoughtfulness can lead to accidents and create other problems.
