Reasons to Choose Inpatient Drug Treatment Over Outpatient Drug Treatment

There are a number of reasons why one type of drug treatment may or may not prove to be more effective than the other. Ultimately, the reasons that you choose inpatient drug treatment versus outpatient drug treatment may differ significantly from the next person but the end result is the same—inpatient drug treatment tends to be more effective at helping individuals make a full recovery from addiction and regain control of their lives.

What’s the Difference Between Inpatient Drug Treatment Centers and Outpatient Treatment Centers

Although the differences between the two types of treatment centers may seem quite small to some people, the truth is that there are some major differences between inpatient drug treatment and outpatient drug treatment. One of the biggest difference between the two is the level of monitoring that is provided at each. Inpatient drug treatment centers provide around the clock monitoring whereas outpatient drug treatment centers only provide limited monitoring during normal business hours while the individual is actually at the facility.

Another common difference between the two types of treatment centers is the living arrangements. Inpatient drug treatment centers provide a place for recovering addicts to live while they receive treatment for addiction. Outpatient treatment centers do not provide housing and require the addict to return home each day to continue the recovery process on their own.

Finally, inpatient and outpatient drug treatment centers differ greatly in cost. Most of the time, inpatient drug treatment centers are more expensive than outpatient treatment centers. This is likely because inpatient drug treatment centers have higher overhead costs since they provide housing, around the clock care and supervision and additional services such as daily meals.

Which One to Choose?

Typically, inpatient drug treatment is more effective than outpatient treatment because the patient receives around the clock care, monitoring, support and guidance at an inpatient facility where they are not subjected to the stresses of life outside of treatment and they do not have to face the potential opportunity to use drugs or alcohol because such substances are not allowed in the treatment facility. If you or someone you love is addicted to drugs or alcohol, inpatient treatment centers can provide the highest level of support and care for you during the recovery process.
