“Co-occurring disorders”, as the name suggests, is a disorder, in which the person is affected with dual problems like that of an emotional or psychiatric problem along with drug or alcohol addiction. The “co-occurring disorder” has a great effect on the patients “psychological and physical health”. A large part of the global population is experiencing this problem of “co-occurring disorder”.
In a survey, it was found that a substantial number of adolescent girls are affected with the co-occurring disorder. Girls within age groups of 12-17 years are also found having co-occurring disorder.
The exact causes of co-occurring disorders in girls have not been found, but it is assumed that girls use drugs and alcohol, greatly to reduce their tensions and for boosting up their confidence.
