Cancer treatment-an insight of chemotherapy
Cancer is an uncontrolled growth of body cells, which can be fatal at times. Cancer is considered as one of the most deadly diseases in the world resulting in the death of large number of people every year. Though cancer is fatal, cancer can be completely treated if detected at early stages. There is no such age limit for the cancer affected people, but the risk of cancer increases with growing age. Various types of cancer treatments are practiced world over. The cancer treatments are quite common are chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy, biological therapy, and ue of bisphosphonates. In addition, different cancer drugs can be also given to the patient.
Chemotherapy, popularly known as chemo, is the widely and most often used cancer treatment, world over since 1950’s. “Chemo” means the use of any drug to cure any disease. The type of chemotherapy can defer from patient to patient depending up on the severity of cancer. A chemo can be a “pill or liquid” which can be taken at home but strictly following the doctor’s prescription and guidance. Mostly, chemo is administered into the veins of the patient through injection or with the help of a “tiny plastic tube”, known as the “IV (intravenous) injection”.
The cost of the chemotherapy depends on the type of chemo you are using and on the frequency and the period of its intake. Though cancer treatments are costly, they can be covered under medical insurances. The side effects of the chemotherapy vary from person to person; some may have no side effect at all, while some may experience hair loss, sores n the mouth, tired feeling and the feeling of sickness with an increase in the risk of infection.
